Xiamen Air just released its new B787 which features a livery in support of UN sustainable development goals by UN general assembly.

Here's the coverage on Boeing's website:

"When it goes into service soon, Xiamen Airline’s new 787-9 will literally carry the United Nations’ goals for sustainable development on its wings as it carries passengers around the world. The Dreamliner delivered Friday at North Charleston, S.C., is painted in a special blue livery that represents the sustainable development goals adopted by the U.N. in September 2015.Xiamen, China’s largest all-Boeing fleet carrier, signed an agreement with the U.N. in February 2017, becoming the first airline to work with the international body on the sustainability theme. The agreement is an innovative attempt to leverage both parties to generate more awareness throughout the world, said Zhao Dong, president of Xiamen Airlines. The new 787-9 is also the first fully painted special livery for Xiamen.“The super-efficient Dreamliner is a perfect match of the sustainable development approach of today’s world,” said John Bruns, president of Boeing China. “Congratulations to our long term partner Xiamen Airlines for taking this special 787, but more importantly for being the great corporate citizen in our industry.”Based on in-service data, Boeing says the 787 family is delivering unmatched fuel efficiency to customers, using 20 to 25 percent less fuel and having 20 to 25 percent fewer emissions than the airplanes they replace. The 787 family also has saved over 21 billion pounds of fuel since entering service in 2011 based on projected savings versus replacement airplanes. The airplane itself also strongly testifies to many sustainable goals worldwide, such as sustainable cities and communities; responsible consumption and production and climate action, said Brad Zaback, vice president and general manager of the 787 Program. The United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted the “Transforming our world: The 2030 agenda for sustainable development” goals in 2015. They contain 17 goals with targets to be achieved over the next 15 years.“We are so excited to celebrate the delivery of this beautiful airplane with our privileged partner the United Nations and our old friend Boeing,” said Zhao, the airline’s president. “This airplane will carry the Sustainable Development Goals as well as our friendship flying across the world and connect the people with the unparalleled experience.”"

My thoughts:

Xiamen Air has a great colour scheme that is elegant and soft, I believe this fits very well with the UN's agenda as well. Other than the profound message it's trying to promote, I believe it also suggests that China is claiming more soft power and trying to raise its global image and reputation here as well.

It is cool to watch and hopefully one day I can fly it one day, what you guys think? See pictures below.
